ABOUT LISA

Lisa Palm grew up in Connecticut, USA and has lived in 5 different states. She and her husband raised their family in Santa Cruz, California and they now live in the Portland, Oregon area.

Lisa started studying French when she was 11 years old and has studied 9 languages since then. While serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in The Gambia, West Africa, she spoke Wolof and Mandinka which instilled in her an appreciation for other languages and cultures. Her various experiences as a language student gave her a unique advantage of being able to connect with adult language learners.

Lisa has been teaching ESOL for over 7 years.

Teaching Experience

• Afghanistan Children’s Charity — Teaching English online to students ages 14-29 living in Afghanistan.
• Schneider Electric — Taught workplace English to electronics assembly employees. (Tualatin, Oregon)
• Portland Community College — Managing volunteer tutor program for ESOL Level 1-3 classes. Facilitating weekly conversation groups. (Portland, Oregon)
• Lutheran Community Services Northwest — Assisting students to prepare for the U.S. Citizenship exam. (Portland, Oregon)
• Adelante Mujeres — Taught beginning to high beginning level English to native Spanish speakers. (Forest Grove, Oregon)
• Silicon Valley Adult Education — Taught multi-level ESOL classes online. (San Jose, California)
• Santa Clara Adult Education — Taught beginning ESOL classes in person. (Santa Clara, California)
• Education First — Taught high beginning level ESOL classes to international students ages 12-18. (Monterey, California)

CLASSES

Lisa offers English language instruction for Adults, in person in the Metro Portland, Oregon area or Online.

Lisa specializes in teaching students who have very little English experience. She will meet with you to discuss your personal and/or professional goals and custom design classes for you and/or your business.

Lisa uses creative approaches to make lessons fun and educational by combining current ESOL teaching methods with technology and media content. In addition, she helps develop student's confidence to better communicate with employers, teachers, and in everyday interactions. Reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities are integrated throughout the curriculum.
